Atlantic hurricane season is almost upon us - It begins on June 1, 2016, and will end on November 30, 2016. Since 1953, Atlantic tropical storms have been named by the National Hurricane Center. They are now maintained and updated by an international committee of the World Meteorological Organization. The original name lists featured only women's names.

The names for 2016 are: Alex, Bonnie, Colin, Danielle, Earl, Fiona, Gaston, Hermine, Igor, Julia, Karl, Lisa, Matthew, Nicole, Otto, Paula, Richard, Shary, Tomas, Virginie, Walter.

The National Hurricane Center also has an awesome comprehensive guide to being prepared for the upcoming season. If you live on the Gulf Coast, like we do, this could not be more important, so be sure to check it out.
