A number of people have represented the Acadiana area in the National Football League.

All summer long, we’re going to spotlight the fantastic athletes from the area, people that were actually born in one of the Acadiana parishes, that went on to play football at the highest level, the NFL.

Yesterday, we profiled Lafayette native Herb Williams.

Today, we spotlight Ramsey Dardar.

Born on October 3, 1959 in Cecilia, Dardar attended Cecilia High School.

Following his high school years, Dardar went to college at LSU, where he was named a First-Team All-SEC defensive lineman in his senior year of 1982.

The 6-foot-2, 264-pound Dardar was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 3rd round of the 1983 NFL Draft.

After spending the 1983 season on the injured reserve list, Dardar made his NFL debut with the Cardinals in 1984, at the age of 25, appearing in all 16 games, including 6 as a starter.

Unfortunately, 1984 would be the only action that Dardar would see on the field.

He was waived by St. Louis in early September 1985, prior to being released by the New York Giants before the 1986 season, and then being signed and released by the Houston Oilers in October of that same year.

In one season in the NFL, Dardar appeared in 16 games, all at defensive tackle, including 6 as a starter.

Sadly, Dardar has been imprisoned for much of his post-NFL career.

He pleaded guilty to three burglary charges in 1990 and was sentenced to five years in prison, with all but 18 months suspended, before being released.

Later, in 1992, Dardar was sentenced to six years in prison after a guilty plea to charges of simple burglary and possession of stolen goods, prior to being released from prison in March 1997.

In November of 1997, Dardar was arrested again for burglary, to which he entered a plea and sentenced to a 32-year prison term.

Today, Dardar is 57-years old.
