Acadia Parish Sheriff's deputies have arrested a Kaplan man they say has been stealing crawfish from field roads in the parish.

Sheriff K.P. Gibson says 53-year-old Alfred Mire was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail after deputies caught Mire stealing some sacks of crawfish this past weekend.

Gibson says, "The suspect is believed to be selling the crawfish in the Kaplan area, as that is the area he resides. It is also possible that he could be selling them to local wholesalers or businesses. Our investigation continues to determine the level of this criminal activity".

Several of the farmers who had crawfish stolen did see a person driving a black compact vehicle in the area where crawfish was taken while employees were running traps.

As the case continues, anyone with information about any crawfish thefts, should call the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office or call Acadia Crime Stoppers at 789-TIPS.

Judge David Smith set Mire's bond at $40,000.
