CAMERON, La. (AP) — The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says the annual alligator harvest will start Wednesday at the Rockefeller State Wildlife Refuge in Cameron and Vermilion parishes.

The refuge will open the public each day at 10 a.m. during the harvest and will close at sunset.

Officials say the delayed openings will be in effect for at least a week, or until trappers exhaust their quotas for the controlled harvest.

The refuge covers 26 miles of coastal southwest Louisiana.
