In an update on this story the Lafayette Fire Department has released the following video in an attempt to identify the person responsible. If you can identify the suspect you're asked to call Lafayette Crime Stoppers at 337-232-TIPS.

A Lafayette Sheriff deputy patrolling Marigny Circle noticed One Stop Discount Mart on fire early Wednesday morning, a suspected arson that could have done more harm than the minor fire damage it caused to the rear exterior and attic area, as well as minor smoke and water damage to the interior.

Lafayette Fire Department PIO Alton Trahan says firefighters from Lafayette, Judice, Scott and Duson was able to put the fire out within fifteen minutes. The business, owned by Murad Saleh, has been open for six months.

Saleh said his business closed around 11:00 p.m. Tuesday night, helping Lafayette fire investigators determine that the building was intentionally set on fire. Authorities believe the suspect set a fire to the exterior of the building, using an ignitable liquid to help spread the fire before running away. Investigators also believe it's possible the suspect may have experienced minor burns.

Call Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS or the Lafayette Fire Department at (337) 291-8716 if you have any information.
