Broussard Mayor And Council Support Airport Tax

The Broussard City Council along with Mayor Charles Langlinais announced Tuesday night that they give unanimous support for the sales tax to be used for improvements atLafayetteRegionalAirport.

On December 6th voters in Lafayette Parish will decide whether nor not they want to levy a one cent sales tax for eight months during 2015 that would be used for a new airport terminal.

Mayor Charles Langlinais says,

"Expanding and improving our airport is a huge part of our economy.  As one of the fastest growing areas in the state ofLouisiana, increasing access to the city ofBroussardis an important aspect of our businesses to expand and compete in the global economy.  This tax is specific and the dollars are dedicated to this one project.  I join my council in urging the voters of our city and the parish to pass it when they head to the polls next month."

The temporary tax would, if approved, be levied between April 1 through November 30, 2015.

The tax would raise close to $37 million towards the $90 million needed for the new terminal, added parking and other infrastructure.

Broussard Councilman Ray Bourque says,

"This council joins the Broussard Chamber of Commerce in publicly supporting the airport tax.  This initiative is well framed and is only dedicated to this project, which betters our city, our parish and the entire Acadian region."

Councilman Johnnie Foco adds,

"This is the only time we have had a tax like this.  The fact that it is for a limited time and addresses one of the biggest needs of our parish makes this an easy decision for us.  I hope the voters of Broussard and the parish stand with us in ensuring its passage next weekend."

Early voting happens today and Saturday.  The election is December 6.
