A plea has been entered by a key defendant in the inmate abuse case involving Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal.

Lt. Col. Gerald Savoy, who was scheduled to stand trail alongside Ackal, will face sentencing next year, says Savoy's attorney Randall McCann, according to our news partners at KATC.

Details on Savoy's plea, though, have not been made clear yet, though, as we await court filings to be made public.

Savoy, along with former Capt. Mark Frederick,  is accused of conspiring with Ackal, and other officers who allegedly assaulted five inmates.

Savoy faced several counts of deprivation of rights and conspiracy to abuse and obstruct.
