Court Documents: Ackal Recorded Threatening Prosecutor

Though Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal is not behind bars before facing trial for several civil rights violations, he may be facing more restrictions following the release of recordings related to the case.

According to our news partner, KATC, the U.S. Attorney's Office has requested stricter pretrial release conditions after an informant submitted recordings of Ackal threatening prosecutor Mark Blumberg.

Court documents outlined the threats that were recorded between Ackal and unidentified people.

"And this sorry son-of-a-(expletive) Jew (expletive) in Washington, saying he is going to send me to federal pen," Ackal said in the recording, according to the court documents. (transcribed by KATC).

Ackal is currently not allowed to possess a firearm as part of his pretrial release, but the U.S. Attorney's Office is also requesting that he "avoid locations where he would have ready access to a weapon" and be subject to unannounced inspections of his house, body, vehicle and office to ensure that he does not possess a weapon.
