Dallas Cowboys' star running back Ezekiel Elliott has been suspended for six games by the National Football league for violating the league's conduct policy.

Elliott is expected to appeal the suspension.

The ruling stems from an investigation started more than a year ago concerning a domestic abuse complaint filed by an ex-girlfriend.  The Columbus, OH declined to pursue the case last September for what it termed "conflicting and inconsistent information."

Elliott was also alleged to have been involved in an incident which resulted in a nose injury to another man in a Dallas nightclub.  Dallas police have suspended that investigation because they could not contact the victim nor find witnesses.

Elliott rushed for 1,651 yards and 15 touchdowns last season as a rookie.
