Democrats Pouring Their Own Money Into US Senate Campaigns
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Two Democrats running for Louisiana's U.S. Senate seat are putting their own cash into the jam-packed race.
The campaign for Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell says the Democratic state utility regulator put $250,000 of his own money into his bid for the Senate seat. That's the only money he's reporting for the latest fundraising quarter.
New Orleans lawyer Caroline Fayard's campaign says the Democrat poured $150,000 of her personal wealth into her campaign account and raised another $193,000.
Fundraising reports for the quarter ending March 31 were due Friday to the Federal Election Commission. Not all the campaigns have released details yet.
Among the Republican candidates, retired Air Force Col. Rob Maness announced he's raised $300,000 for the race. Treasurer John Kennedy says he brought in $817,000 during the quarter.
