Parents dressing up their kids for Halloween this evening should keep in mind to never use a real gun as a prop for their costumes.

Sounds like common sense, but according to Chris Ortego, who replaced Glenn Fleming today on Firearms Friday, it has happened before, and it could definitely happen again.

Ortego cited a Lafayette Parish incident during which some kids were playing around with their Airsoft guns, but a police officer "freaked out" and drew his weapon on the kids.

"It almost ended badly," Ortego said.

A friend of Ortego's actually used a real .357 Magnum as part of his Halloween costume.

"Do not do that," Ortego said.

Ortego also said to make sure any prop guns you use for your costumes have an orange tip.
