Duson Council Supports The School Tax

In April, the voters of Lafayette Parish will be asked to decide whether or not to approve a 1/2 cent sales tax that would be used for classrooms for students.

Lafayette Parish School Board member Justin Centanni has told KPEL previously that the tax would be dedicated to replace almost 250 temporary, or Butler buildings as they are sometimes called, on campuses throughout the district.

The proposed tax, if approved by voters, would be collected for a ten year period.

At last night's Duson City Council meeting, the vote was unanimous in support of a resolution that supports the tax proposal.

The Mayor of Duson, Johnny Thibodaux had this to say, “The Town of Duson councilmembers overwhelmingly agreed to support the ½ cent School Board sales tax that is being proposed on the April ballot.”

The city of Broussard has also endorsed the 1/2 cent sales tax.

The tax will be up for a vote of the people on Saturday, April 29.
