A joint investigation between the Scott and Lafayette Police Departments has landed a Duson man behind bars for three counts of felony theft on two separate occasions.

The Scott Police Department has reported 42-year-old Leroy L. Schexnayder Jr. was booked in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center after allegedly selling stolen hardware merchandise to local individuals and pawn shops.

Investigators determined Schexnayder would charge hardware purchases to his former employer-a local glass company-at two local hardware stores. He would then sell the items totaling $3,511, to pawn shops and individuals for cash.

Originally arrested on Jan. 9 by the Lafayette Police Department, Schexnayder was arrested for a warrant obtained by the Scott Police Department on Monday, Jan. 25.

Both law enforcement agencies have been working with the local pawn shops to recover the items. Most have reportedly been found.
