Today members of the Louisiana Congressional delegation announced a 20 year lease has been signed to replace the current VA Clinic in Lafayette. The new facility will provide primary care and specialty care services.

Senator Bill Cassidy said,

Replacing the existing clinic is a step in the right directions and is good news for our veterans. Until the clinic open and starts seeing patients, we must continue to ensure our veterans have access to reliable, quality care in southwest Louisiana.

Congressman Charles Boustany said,

However while Lafayette veterans celebrate, Lake Charles veterans are left feeling frustrated without adequate news on progress on their clinic. I'm right there with them. I fought to get authorization for this clinic through Congress, and I'm not done fighting. Senator Vitter and I have expressed over and again the immediate needs of veterans in Lake Charles, and the urgency required to ensure this need is met.

Senator David Vitter had this to say,

While this is great news for veterans in Lafayette, we can't forget that the VA still owes a clinic to veterans in Lake Charles too. If not for the VA's own screw-ups, both of these clinics would have already been built. We absolutely owe it to our veterans to provide them with the best and most accessible care possible, and we aren't going to let up until both of these clinics are completed.

According to the press releases announcing the Lafayette VA clinic construction on Ambassador Caffery Parkway will have 29,224 square feet of outpatient clinic and 150 parking spaces. No word on when construction will actually begin.
