A former State Representative and State Senator from St. Landry Parish has died.

Armand Brinkhaus served in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1968 through 1976, and he was then elected to the State Senate.

Brinkhaus served as a State Senator through 1996 when he was succeeded by Dr. Tommy Casanova.

The former legislator was a huge support of the CODOFIL, the Council for the Development of French in Louisiana.

A mass will be held for Brinkhaus this Friday at St. Charles Catholic Church in Grand Coteau. It starts at 11 a.m.

Visitation will be in Opelousas from noon until 9 o'clock in the evening on Thursday at Sibille Funeral Home. It resumes at 9 o'clock Friday morning until the start of the mass.

Armand Brinkhaus was 81.
