It looks like a former Louisiana Ragin' Cajun football standout is getting closer to making his return to the NFL.

Now, McGuire will still have to wait a couple of weeks to make his 2018 debut, as NFL rules stipulate that any player who was on his club’s original 53-man roster, and placed on injured reserve, must miss 8 weeks.

That means that the earliest that McGuire can be activated would be in Week 9, when the Jets are scheduled to take on the Miami Dolphins.

McGuire made his first practice appearance for the Jets on Wednesday since fracturing his foot during training camp.

A native of Houma, and a graduate of Vandebilt High School, McGuire, who was drafted in the 6th round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Jets, rushed for 315 yards and one touchdown in his rookie campaign, while also catching 17 passes for 177 yards and one score.

The second all-time leading rusher in UL program history, McGuire tallied 4,202 career rushing yards, between 2013-2016.

In addition, McGuire also finished as the school career leader in all-purpose yards (5,858 yards),  touchdowns (52) and scoring (318 points).
