Gov. Bobby Jindal is urging Louisiana residents to get a game plan as Tropical Storm Erika crawls, albeit weakly, toward the Gulf Coast.

The governor also organized a Unified Command Group meeting with officials with more than a dozen state agencies in attendance. At the meeting, Jindal discussed preparation efforts with cabinet officials and emergency response personnel and stressed the need for Louisianians to make a plan for their families if the storm continues to move west.

"We want to ensure that Louisianians are actively monitoring Tropical Storm Erika should the storm continue to move west," Jindal said in a press release. "We are encouraging everyone to get a game plan now in the event that weather conditions change. As with every storm, we always hope for the best and prepare for the worst."

Jindal prioritized items such as water, non-perishable food, hygiene supplies and prescription medications as being vital to emergency preparedness lists. He also urged citizens to have an evacuation plan in the event of an emergency.

Erika has weakened some, but may be headed for a more westerly path, according to KATC Chief Meteorologist Rob Perillo. He noted Friday night confidence in the forecast track remains low, as it does with any weak storm situated near the Caribbean Islands.

"The upper atmospheric trough sitting over the Gulf of Mexico should insure that Erika stays east of Louisiana waters," Perillo posted on the KATC Web site. "If not, a very weak system or disturbance would be all that would be possible through the middle part of next week."
