UPDATE – Victim Identified In Fatal Lafayette Shooting

Update: Lafayette Police spokesman Corporal Paul Mouton says 24-year-old Albert Gilbert of Sunset was fatally shot Saturday night on Mercer Street. Investigators have identified the shooter but have not released a name yet. Call Lafayette Police or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS if you have any information.

A 24-year-old man is dead after a shooting Saturday night on 200 block of Mercer Street in Lafayette.

Lafayette Police spokesman Cpl. Paul Mouton says when officers arrived on the scene around 8 pm they found the victim lying in the front yard of a home with multiple gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Witnesses tell officers the victim was involved in a disturbance when the shooting happened. His identity is being withheld for now.

Officers brought in for questioning four people who were at the scene as they continue to investigate.
