Lafayette Shooting Suspect Arrested

Lafayette Police have arrested Deontra Kately following a fatal shooting in Lafayette.

Our news partner, KATC, reported Kately brandished a gun while arguing with a family member on Louisiana Avenue.

The victim, 22-year-old Damiyon Sonnier, stepped in between the pair of arguing men when Kately pulled the trigger.

Sonnier was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died.

Kately was charged with second-degree murder and booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.

The investigation is ongoing.
