An apparent drunk driver is fortunate to be alive after allegedly crashing into a couple of police vehicles that were working a fatal crash scene involving two Lafayette men and their trucks Thursday night on Verot School Road.

Corporal Paul Mouton with Lafayette Police says around 10:15 pm a woman driving a white Honda Accord on Verot School Road hit one of the parked police vehicles that was blocking traffic, then went further down the road and hit the other parked police vehicle. Neither the woman nor police were injured.

Julia Roberts of Lafayette was arrested and charged with 1st Offense OWI and Careless Operation. That crash remains under investigation as well as the initial crash that police were working.

The two dead drivers of the first crash were men in their 50s from Lafayette. Both died at the hospital. Their identities have not been released pending notification of their families. Police continue to investigate that crash as well.
