Former Louisiana Ragin' Cajun softball catcher Lexie Elkins is retiring from the professional softball ranks.

The Chicago Bandits, who drafted Elkins with the first pick of the 2016 National Pro Fastpitch Draft, made the announcement on Saturday.

A native of Victoria, Texas, Elkins hit 75 home runs from 2014-2016 with Louisiana, including 32 in 2015 as a junior, when she was named a First-Team All-American.

A three-time Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, Elkins finished her career in 12th place on the all-time home run list, despite hitting all of her homers in three seasons at UL, after transferring from Texas Tech.

Last season, in her rookie rookie campaign, Elkins hit a .216, to go along with 4 home runs and 15 runs batted in with the Bandits.

The National Pro Fastpitch league, which began in 2004, consists of five teams, including the Bandits, along with the Akron Racers, Scrap Yard Dogs, Texas Charge, and USSSA Pride.
