Football is nearly over. We are in the thick of basketball season. In south Louisiana, that means baseball season is just about here.

The Ragin' Cajuns softball team is kicking their season off in just over two weeks and the UL baseball team is starting a week after that.

Even the local amateur ranks are getting things rolling.

The Acadiana Amateur Baseball League is looking for players for its upcoming spring season.

The AABL is Lafayette's only adult baseball league and is open to anyone 18 years of age and older. The league belongs to the Men's Senior/Adult Baseball League nationally, which is the nation's largest adult amateur baseball association.

The 2017 spring season will begin in late March with games played at Fabacher Field in Broussard and Acadiana High School in Lafayette mainly on Saturdays and Sundays.

So, if you or someone you know is interested in playing real baseball, then all you need to do is sign up right now at the league's website, which is www.acadianabaseball.com. From there, managers in need of players will contact you for a tryout or to outright pick you up.

There is a cost to playing in the league, however, that varies from team-to-team depending on sponsors. Average cost without sponsorships is about $200 per player.

The league also has an opening for one new team. If you or someone you know is interested in managing a team, you're invited to contact the League President at (337) 288-2856 or email jude@acadianabaseball.com.
