He was a political figure in Louisiana for decades and now Edgar 'Sonny' Mouton has passed away at the age of 86. A Lafayette native, Mouton was a political force having served in the Louisiana House of Representatives, the Louisiana Senate and as executive counsel for Republican Governor David Treen and Democratic Governor Edwin Edwards.

Mouton was inducted as a Living Legend into the Acadian Museum in Erath for his efforts in helping to establish CODOFIL and preserving Cajun culture. In addition Mouton was inducted into the Louisiana Political Hall of Fame.

'Sonny' Mouton may best be remembered for his many years co-hosting the Jerry Lewis Telethon on KLFY-TV 10 and being a national vice-president of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Former State Representative Ron Gomez said this of Mouton,

His command of the legislative process, the legislative process is one that only a few people understand fully and he did fully and used it to great advantage...Sonny was a great friend as well as fine person.

Funeral services for Edgar 'Sonny' Mouton are being handled by Delhomme Funeral Home in Lafayette.
