A new defensive assistant, who was under contract with the New Orleans Saints as a player just last season, has joined the LSU football coaching staff.

Caputo, who spent rookie training camp last May with the New Orleans Saints, played under current LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda at Wisconsin from 2012-2015, including the last three as a starter.

Over his career with the Badgers, Caputo compiled 144 total tackles, to go along with 100 assisted tackles, 1.5 sacks, and 3 interceptions.

A native of Imperial, Pennsylvania, Caputo spent two weeks with the Los Angeles Rams last August, before being released before the beginning of the regular season.
