It's official; Danny Etling will be LSU's starting quarterback when the Tigers kickoff their 2017 regular season schedule.

It's official, but it hardly comes as a surprise, even though LSU head coach Ed Orgeron said freshman challenger Myles Brennan was "a very close second" when he made the announcement on Tuesday.

A senior from Terre Haute, Indiana, Etling played the first two seasons of his collegiate career at Purdue, before transferring to LSU in 2015.

Last season, in 11 games, including 10 starts, in which he guided LSU to a 7-3 record, Etling completed 160-of-269 passes for 2,123 yards, to go along with 11 touchdowns and 5 interceptions.

The Tigers will open their 2017 season on Saturday, September 2, when they take on the BYU Cougars in Houston.
