A Duson man was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide after a fatal accident in Evangeline Parish yesterday.

Louisiana State Police reported that 47-year-old Michael Fontenot was charged with his second DWI in less than 24 hours in the fatal crash that occurred on La. 3042 around 5:30 p.m. Friday.
The victim, 52-year-old Arleen Soileau of Ville Platte was pronounced dead on the scene after Fontenot's vehicle crossed the center line and struck hers while both vehicles negotiated a curve. Neither driver was wearing their seatbelt.
Fontenot was airlifted to an Alexandria hospital for treatment. Upon his release he will be booked into the Evangeline Parish Jail  on charges of vehicular homicide, reckless operation, driving left of center, open alcoholic container, expired driver’s license, no seat belt and no insurance. 
Troopers said Fontenot was arrested Thursday afternoon for driving while impaired, careless operation and open alcoholic container.  He posted bond on the charges and was released approximately 6 hours before the fatal crash took place yesterday.
