The Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2019 has been announced, with two of the biggest names in football headlining the class, Les Miles and Peyton Manning. Manning will join his father Archie in enshrinement after one of the most dominant stretches at quarterback in NFL history.

Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Foundation President Ronnie Rantz says the five-time MVP won’t be the last Manning that gets in

“There’s a father-son combo already in there, Bert Jones and his dad are already in there, now we’ll have Archie and Peyton. Of course it will be really exciting when Eli gets in there in a couple of years.”

Peyton was born in 1976 in New Orleans and had a legendary prep career at Isidore Newman High School.

Co-headlining the event with Peyton Manning is former LSU head coach Les Miles. The Mad Hatter took over as LSU’s 32nd head coach in 2005, and led the Tigers to one National and two SEC Championships, as well as five AP Top 10 finishes before his dismissal in 2016. The eccentric Ohioan may not have been raised here, but Rantz says he’s a Louisiana legend.

“Les still lives in Baton Rouge, and Louisiana is his home, he loves the state. He’s a great ambassador for the state of Louisiana.”

And it’s not just Manning and the Mad Hatter, other Pelican State greats like former Southern Head Baseball Coach Roger Cador, Olympic medalist Danielle Scott-Arruda, Peabody Basketball Coach Charles Smith, LSU 1958 All-American Max Fugler, and more will be inducted. Rantz says it’s a chance for players from across all sports to be recognized.

“We do good job of making sure we spread it around and don’t just focus on football. We could induct eight football players every year, but we have rules put in place where you can only induct two, a max of three.”

They’ll be enshrined June 8th next year in Natchitoches.
