UPDATE 1:15 p.m.--The lock-down at Milton Elementary is being lifted as school officials say an armed suspect is in police custody.

Lafayette Parish School System CAO Joe Craig told KPEL News, "At 12:50 p.m.,  we got word from the principal that the suspect was in police custody and we will be ending the lock down in the next few minutes."

Craig said to ensure their safety, students were escorted in groups to the restrooms and water fountains.  They were also fed lunches in the classrooms as much as possible, or escorted to the cafeteria.

State-mandated testing, which was scheduled for today, was postponed.
