Earlier today, the composite average ACT score among Louisiana students was released. At 19.2, the composite average dropped slightly since 19.5 last year.

Today, in figures released by the Lafayette Parish School System, students in Lafayette Parish are scoring above the state composite average at 19.9.But, that is also down slightly from 20.1 the year before. And, it's still below the new benchmark score for college readiness at 21.

LPSS has improved its standing in the state, climbing one spot to 12th. Also, since 2012, the number of  Lafayette Parish students scoring 21 or higher in the state increased by 150, making it 8th among districts in the state in that category. And, for students scoring 18 or higher, LPSS ranked 10th among districts in the state with an increase of 255 more students over the same time period.

Coming in as the highest scoring school in Lafayette Parish was the Early College Academy at 11th among all high schools in the state.

Lafayette High was a noticeable bright spot in the report. Ranking 18th among high schools in the state, LHS came in 22nd in the state for scores of 18 or more and 21 or more.

BELOW is how each local high school fared:

  • ACADIANA HIGH SCHOOL: Composite score of 18.7 with 203 students scoring 18 or better and 119 scoring 21 or higher
  • CARENCRO HIGH SCHOOL: Composite score of 17.3 with 86 students scoring 18 or better and 35 scoring 21 or higher
  • COMEAUX HIGH SCHOOL: Composite score of 19.7 with 265 students scoring 18 or better and 168 scoring 21 or higher
  • THE EARLY COLLEGE ACADEMY: Composite score of 24.6 with 51 students scoring 18 or better and 43 scoring a 21 or higher
  • LAFAYETTE HIGH SCHOOL: Composite score of 22.4 with 410 students scoring 18 or better and 325 scoring 21 or higher
  • NORTHSIDE HIGH SCHOOL: Composite score of 16.3 with 39 students scoring 18 or better and 15 scoring 21 or higher
  • DAVID THIBODAUX STEM MAGNET ACADEMY: Composite score of 21 with 89 students scoring 18 or better and 20 scoring 21 or higher.
