State Police troopers have been asked to help patrol and work traffic in Iberia Parish. That’s according to our news partners at KATC, who report New Iberia Mayor Hilda Curry made the request.

This is not new, as State Police have done this for other cities before. A State Police spokesman says they will provide what assistance they can.

While Mayor Curry did not speak with KATC, Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal did. He had this to say concerning concerns about crime and the availability of troopers to help them:

"Nothing has changed. I have the statistics. There is no rampant crime."

"We're already working crashes for them in Iberia Parish that they can't attend to," Ackal said.
