New Orleans Saints Draft Prospect: Derek Barnett

With the 2017 NFL Draft now just two days away, let's take a look at a player the Saints may possibly select with the 11th overall pick, Tennessee defensive end Derek Barnett.

The Saints, who have an obvious need for an edge pass rusher, have been linked to Barnett in a number of mock drafts over the past couple of months.

Now, obviously, nobody knows what's going to happen on Thursday night, and few know if the Saints are interested in Barnett, or even if he'll still be available when it's their turn to pick, but it does seem like a good fit.

You would figure the Saints will take a pass rusher with one of their first three picks (11, 32, and 42), and if Barnett is still available, which he may not be, then they may just very well prove a lot of those mock drafts correct, and draft the still 20-year old.

A native of Nashville, Tennessee, Barnett ended his college career as the all-time leader in sacks at Tennessee with 33 in only three seasons, surpassing the great Reggie White.

The 6-foot-3, 260-pound Barnett was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team in 2014, before being tabbed a First Team All-SEC selection in 2016.

Viewed as a three-down defensive end by most NFL experts, Barnett recorded at least one sack in each of the Vols game last season.
