Now is the time to prepare. That is the message coming from NOAA as new storm predictions are released ahead on this week's start of hurricane system. June first marks the start of the season for the Atlantic basin. The new prediction show 11 to 17 tropical storms with 2 to 4 of them becoming major hurricanes. This is considered to be a very active season.

You may not have heard about it, but there has already been one storm. Tropical storm Arlene kicked things off, but the storm failed to organize and then fizzled out in the open waters of the Atlantic.

It has been several years since a Hurricane directly affected the Acadiana. The local Red Cross affiliate has some guidelines for you to start preparing now.
