Opelousas Man Killed in Hwy. 35 Crash

The Louisiana State Police have reported a single-vehicle crash in St. Landry Parish that left one man dead.

The LSP report states that approximately 8 a.m Sunday 32-year-old Reginald Jenkins of Opelousas was traveling north on LA Highway 35 when his Kia Optima failed to negotiate a curve ans went off the road. After striking a wooden fence and a storage building Jenkins' car landed upside down in a shallow canal.

Though wearing a seatbelt, Jenkins was pronounced dead at the scene having sustained fatal injuries.

Officials are awaiting results of a toxicology report to determine if  Jenkins' impairment contributed to the crash.

This is the 11th fatal crash that Troop I has investigated so far in 2015.
