This Saturday evening, the New Orleans Saints will be on the road to take on the Indianapolis Colts at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis, Indiana, in their third preseason game of the 2014 season.

You can hear all the action on ESPN 1420, beginning with the pregame show at 5 o’clock, with kickoff set for 7 pm.

The Saints are a perfect 2-0 in the preseason, while the Colts are currently winless, at 0-2.

Prior to becoming the Indianapolis Colts in 1984, the Colts were located in Baltimore from 1953-1983, where they won NFL Championships in 1958, 1959, and 1968, and Super Bowl victory in 1970.

The Saints lead the all-time series against the Colts, 7-5, including 282-261 advantage in all-time points scored.

This week, in preparation for Saturday night’s game, we’ll look at some of the more memorable games between the two franchises.

On Monday, we went back to February 7, 2010, for Super Bowl XLIV, at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida, a 31-17 triumph by the Saints.

Today, we go back to October 12, 1986, for the first-ever Saints' win over the Colts in four tries, a 17-14 triumph.

New Orleans, under first-year head coach Jim Mora, went into the match-up at the Hoosier Dome at 1-4, losers of four-straight, while Indianapolis lost their first five games of the year, and was 0-5.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Saints scored the first ten points of the game in the second quarter, courtesy of an 18-yard touchdown pass from Dave Wilson to Mike Jones, and a 46-yard field goal by Morten Andersen, to take a 10-0 lead into the locker room at halftime

In the third quarter, New Orleans made it 17-unanswered points, when Buford Jordan scored on a 9-yard touchdown run, making it 17-0, Saints, a lead they would not relinquish.

Indianapolis scored the final 14 points, on touchdown passes from Matt Bouza to Jack Trudeau, one from 24 yards, and the other from 16, but it was the Saints that snapped their three-game losing streak, as they came away with the 3-point win.

The Colts actually outgained the Saints, in terms of total yards, 382-305, including 287-144 advantage through the air, but the New Orleans defense forced five fumbles, three of which they recovered, and that turned out to be the difference in the game.

Wilson finished the game 11-of-26 for 131 yards, along with one touchdown and three interceptions, while running back Rueben Mayes paced the running game, with 1008 yards on 22 carries.

In a losing cause for Indianapolis, Trudeau went 24-of-44 for 315 yards, along with two touchdowns and one interception.

The Saints went on to finish 1986 at 7-9, their last losing season until 1994, while the Colts, who lost their first 13 games of the year, won their final three, and finished 3-13.
