The Lafayette man accused of killing one teenager and shooting two others is out on bond after his attorney, Thomas Guilbeau, entered a plea of not guilty on his behalf earlier Monday.

Seth Fontenot was charged with one count of first degree murder and two counts of attempted first degree murder.

Fontenot allegedly shot and killed 15-year-old Austin Rivault and injured two other teens. According to friends close to the family, they were dropping off a friend at his home in the Green Meadow Drive area.

This is the latest court action for the 18-year-old college student who was indicted by a grand jury on the above charges.

According to his arrest affidavit, Fontenot was trying to scare the kids. He’s still being held in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center at this time.

18-year-old Seth Fontenot’s total bail has been set at at $700,000 for the alleged murder of 15-year-old Austin Rivault and the alleged attempted murders of two of Rivault’s 15-year-old friends. Reportedly, Fontenot will have to post an $84,000 bond to get out of jail.

Court documents obtained by KPEL News were filed by Assistant District Attorney Mark Garber, the prosecutor in the murder case, on behalf of the Lafayette Parish District Attorney’s Office, taking the death penalty off the table in Fontenot’s case.
