Shortly before Midnight a Crowley Police Officer attempted to stop a car after observing a switched license plate. The driver of the suspect vehicle got out of the car and fired a handgun at the officer. The officer returned fire as the suspect ran from the vehicle. The gun fire did not strike anyone. A passenger ran from the vehicle at this point but was caught by the officer.

Investigation revealed the vehicle was being driven with the switched license plate as a 'drug rental'. Officers were able to identify 20 year old Jarvis Hopkins of Crowley as the shooter and 18 year old Tyler Smith of Crowley as the passenger.

Hopkins was charged with attempted first degree murder of a police office, resisting an officer and traffic violations. Smith was charged with being a principle to attempted first degree murder of a police officer and resisting an officer. Both men were booked into the Acadia Parish jail.
