It's time to settle this once and for all -- should you purge your crawfish with salt?

The answer from one expert is a resounding "NO!".

According to the folks at CajunCrawfish.com, the old wives tale of rinsing crawfish in salt water is a waste of your time and your salt.

You see, crawfish excrete waste through their gills, and this takes time. A short rinse is great for cleaning existing waste, but the salt will not cause them to purge themselves.

So what should you do?

Again, according to CajunCrawfish.com, they recommend submerging the sack in fresh water multiple times until the used water is clear.

Pretty simple if you ask me.

Some suppliers say that a truly cleaned crawfish has been washed with fresh super oxygenated water for at least 14 hours.
