A line of showers and thunderstorms is pushing its way across Louisiana during these early morning hours. At 3 AM the line stretched from Alexandria in Central Louisiana to Lake Charles in Southwest Louisiana.

At 2:45 The National Weather Service reported a tornado on the ground near Reeves in Allen Parish. Law enforcement spotted the storm and reported the system was moving to the east at 50 MPH. Further warnings could be required as this storm system moves rapidly eastward.

The current National Weather Service radar scan from Lake Charles shows showers and storms are moving quickly to the east. If the current speed and motion are maintained they should affect the western and northwestern portion of Acadiana within the hour. Shower and thunderstorm activity will pass through the Lafayette area most likely between 4 AM and 6 AM this morning.

Forecasters with the Storm Prediction Center have placed portions of Central Louisiana under a marginal risk for severe weather this morning. The I-10 corridor should not see severe storms, however, very strong storms with gusty winds and heavy rains do appear to be likely before the system exits the area later this morning.
