We are blessed with beautiful scenery, great food, and more importantly, great people here in Louisiana. A lot of tourists make New Orleans their only destination in our state, which is a shame. We have some wonderful smaller communities that are completely awesome, and you should really make a concentrated effort to visit them if you have some time this summer! Thanks to Only in Louisiana for reminding us of these charming and quaint towns here in the Bayou State!

  • St Francisville - near one of the most haunted house in America, the Myrtles Plantation, and a beautiful downtown area with lots of local restaurants and shopping
  • Mandeville - lots of local boutiques and restaurants, and close to Lake Ponchartrain and Fontainebleau State Park
  • Grand Isle -  barrier islands, beaches, great fishing, and bird watching. Home to the oldest fishing rodeo in the US
  • Natchitoches - Louisiana's oldest settlement, and the site of the historic annual Christmas Festival of Lights every December
  • Breaux Bridge - the Crawfish Capital of the World, located right in the middle of Cajun country
  • Homer - this Claiborne Parish town not only has Lake Claiborne State park, but a 6,400-acre lake as well. Sportsmans Paradise, indeed!
