Detectives foiled a drug trafficker's scheme to transport crystal meth from St. Martin Parish into St. Mary Parish Wednesday.

St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Spokeswoman Traci Landry reported detectives intercepted a shipment of crystal meth worth nearly $13,000 after they apprehended 24-year-old Demetrius Jackson of Breaux Bridge.

The St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office assisted St. Mary Parish narcotics detectives with the investigation by sharing information that Jackson was planning on traveling to St. Mary Parish to make a delivery. Detectives staked out along Highway 90 spotting Jackson crossing the parish line, before they followed him into the parking lot a convenience store near the Four Corners area.

Following a brief foot pursuit, Jackson was brought back to his vehicle where detectives found several hidden bags of crystal meth. Jackson was arrested for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and resisting an officer. His bail is set at $76,000.

Detectives also arrested 21- year-old Braylon Dugas, a passenger in Jackson's car, for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released after posting $3,500 bond.
