St. Mary Parish Arrest Report

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office reports there were 104 complaints over the last 72 hours in the parish, and there were 10 arrests.  The following is a list of those arrested:

Jason Terrell, 28, 404 Row 1, Lafayette, LA was arrested on February 5, 2016 at 8:35 am on a warrant for criminal trespass. The warrant was issued following an investigation into a complaint of trespassing on private property on Avoca Island. Terrell turned himself in at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Franklin. Terrell was released on a summons to appear in court on May 4, 2016.

Banning Ohlin, 29, 221 Belanger Street, Morgan City, LA was arrested on February 5, 2016 at 11:45 am on a warrant for hit and run driving. The warrant is the result of an investigation into a report of a hit and run incident in which two mailboxes and two garbage cans were damaged by a vehicle on Teche Road in Bayou Vista. The deputy collected evidence indicating that Ohlin struck the objects with his vehicle as he left the area and traveled towards Berwick. Ohlin was taken into custody on the warrant at the Berwick Police Department where he had been booked on related charges. Ohlin was transported to the parish jail for booking. He was released on a $1,000 bond.

Andre Broussard, 24, 1039 Casey Street, Franklin, LA was arrested on February 5, 2016 at 5:40 pm for the following offenses:

-     Possession of cocaine with intent to distribute

-     Possession of drug paraphernalia

-     Possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance

-     Violation of a drug free zone

-     Transactions involving drug proceeds

-     Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon

Detectives with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s office Narcotics Division conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with a non-functioning brake light on Highway 90 in Patterson. While speaking with Broussard who was a passenger in the vehicle, a detective received consent to search his person and located a bag of cocaine along with a straw in his pants pocket. Detectives also located a firearm inside the vehicle belonging to Broussard. During the subsequent investigation into the illegal drug, detectives developed information that Broussard was selling cocaine. Detectives also seized $660 in cash suspected of being derived from illegal drug sales. The investigation occurred within 2000 feet of a church. Broussard has several prior felony convictions. Broussard was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.

Joshua T. Miller, 20, 117 Laura Drive, Patterson, LA was arrested on February 5, 2016 at 5:44 pm on a warrant for aggravated crime against nature. On February 5, 2016, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible molestation of a juvenile. A detective with the Juvenile Division conducted an investigation and gathered evidence that Miller touched a juvenile female victim in a manner that was sexual while at a residence in the Patterson area. The juvenile was 9 years old when the sexual abuse occurred. Miller was located at his residence on the warrant and transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.

Devon Mitchell, 40, 1200 Charles Lee Street, Franklin, LA was arrested on February 5, 2016 at 10:00 pm for possession of Schedule I (marijuana), 2nd offense and possession of drug paraphernalia. A deputy patrolling the Franklin area observed a vehicle stopped in the roadway on Thomas Street. The deputy made contact with two occupants, one of which was identified as, Mitchell, the owner of the vehicle. While speaking with Mitchell, the deputy received consent to search the vehicle. With the assistance of the Franklin Police Department K-9 unit, the deputy located suspected marijuana wrapped in cigar paper in the vehicle where Mitchell was seated. Mitchell was transported to the parish jail for booking. He was released on a $3,000 bond.

Thomas Engel, Jr., 45, 125 Lorraine Lane, Des Allemands, LA was arrested on February 6, 2016 at 3:25 am for disturbing the peace (intoxicated). A deputy responded to Pipeline Lane in the Franklin area to assist a Franklin officer. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with a subject who had been walking in the roadway. The subject was identified as Engel. While speaking with Engel, the deputy smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and person. Engel was transported to the parish jail for booking. Engel was released on a summons to appear in court on May 4, 2016.

Devonne Williams, 48, 508 Barrow Street, Morgan City, LA was arrested on February 6, 2016 at 8:00 am on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of failure to return a leased movable. A deputy located Williams at her residence on the warrant. Williams was released on a $1,000 bond.

Juvenile male, 16, Garden City, LA was arrested on February 6, 2016 at 1:14 pm for careless operation and no vehicle insurance. A deputy investigating a report of a crash on Highway 182 in Garden City learned that the juvenile driver failed to yield to oncoming traffic while turning. The juvenile was released on a summons pending juvenile court proceedings.

Daniel Williams, 25, 6016 Lumea Street, New Iberia, LA was arrested on February 6, 2016 at 3:00 pm for the following offenses:

-     Simple battery

-     Disturbing the peace (intoxicated)

-     Resisting an officer

-     Warrant for Iberia Parish sheriff’s Office for failure to appear on the charge of simple battery

Micah Thibodeaux, 27, 6201 Oleus Boudreaux Street, New Iberia, LA was arrested on February 6, 2016 at 3:40 pm for simple battery and disturbing the peace (intoxicated).

Deputies working the Cypremort Point Mardi Gras parade received a report of a fight on one of the floats. While responding to the location of the reported incident, deputies observed a male subject walking on the side of the roadway on Highway 319 without a shirt. The subject also had scratches on his back. When the subject saw the uniformed deputies he attempted to run but slipped and fell to the ground. The subject then got up and attempted to flee a second time. Deputies apprehended and detained him. The subject was identified as Williams who had an active warrant from Iberia Parish. Deputies then located a second subject on a parade float who was possibly involved in the encounter. That subject was identified as Thibodeaux. While speaking with Thibodeaux, he repeatedly used obscene language in front of parade goers including children. Deputies gathered statements and other evidence indicating that both Williams and Thibodeaux had been drinking. During the parade, the two engaged in an argument that escalated into a fistic encounter on a float. Deputies transported both subjects to the parish jail for booking. Thibodeaux was later released on $1,000 bail. No bail is set for Williams.
