Update: Major Eddie Thibodeaux with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office says 28-year-old Casey Lejeune of Opelousas is behind bars after allegedly trying to rob the Our Lady of Guadalupe Pharmacy in Grand Prairie at gunpoint. But Lejeune was not able to get away with anything after the clerk set off the alarm and was able to lock himself in a back room.

Major Thibodeaux says Lejeune’s alleged getaway partner, 40-year-old Jason Cummings of Opelousas, left his partner behind as his partner came out the building empty-handed. Cummings was eventually tracked down during a traffic stop; Lejeune ended up in the woods in waist deep water before officers talked him out of shooting himself because he didn’t want to go back to prison.

“If not for the excellent training that these deputies receive in negotiations and shoot-don’t-shoot scenarios this case might have turned for the worse for Lejeune," says St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz. He adds, "in all cases, safety should always be the main concern of anyone following suspects involved in a crime but if not for these witnesses that decided to get involved, armed robbery suspects would not have been taken off the streets so quickly.”
