Storms Tonight, Sunny And Cooler By Christmas Day

The radio is playing songs about snow-covered Christmas Trees and here in South Louisiana, we are wearing tank tops, gym shorts, and flip-flops. I guess it's a good thing it's casual day at the office huh? Another reason could be the temperature will come close to 80 degrees for an afternoon high.

If you're thinking that these past few days have been warmer than they should be for this time of the year then you'd be correct. The average high temperature for South Louisiana during December is about 64 degrees.

The good news is that cooler weather is coming for Christmas. The bad news, we're going to have to go through a few showers and storms to get it here. The Storm Prediction Center has placed the northern part of the state at marginal risk for severe weather today. Our part of the world should only see rain, gusty winds, and maybe a thundershower this evening.

If the computer forecast models are spot on with their timing of this weather event most of us won't be affected by it directly. We should all be in our beds asleep tonight and early Saturday by the time the rain pushes through.

Behind the rain will be clearing skies and colder temperatures. You can also count on some gusty northerly breezes to make the day feel colder than it actually is. The current outlook for Santa's flight Sunday night into Acadiana is a good one. He should have clear skies and great visibility.

Christmas Day should dawn mostly sunny and cool but not as cold as forecasters were predicting earlier this week.
