Nolan Kingham won ten games for the Texas Longhorns in 2017.

Friday night the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns got an up close look at how that happened.

The Texas right hander pitched a three hitter over eight innings as Texas opened the season with a 3-0 win at UFCU Disch-Falk Field in Austin.

Kingham allowed only four base runners during the eight innings of work, and never allowed the Cajuns to get two base runners in the same inning.

"We know we're going to face some big-time arms early in the season," head coach Tony Robichaux said. "We're going to have to put on our big boy pants and come back and try to get it done tomorrow."

Jack Burk (0-1) pitched into the fifth inning for the Cajuns, allowing two runs on three hits.  He walked three and struck out four.  Colten Schmidt pitched the final four innings, allowing one run on two hits.

The Longhorns (1-0) got a run in the third inning when David Hamilton led off with a walk and stile second.  Masen Hibbeler followed with a bunt single and two batters later, Austin Todd hit a hard grounder to third to get Hamilton home with the first run.  The Longhorns increased their lead in the fifth when Hibbeler drew a leadoff walk, stole second, went to third on a balk and scored on a single by Kody Clemens.

The Longhorns got their final run against Schmidt in the seventh when Hibbeler singled with one out and scored on a bloop double by Austin Todd.

"This could have been a 1-0 game," Robichaux said.  We should have had a double play on a ground ball and misplayed a ball in left.  You can't do that against really good teams."

The Cajuns could only manage a leadoff single in the first by Gavin Bourgeois, a one out double by Tyler Stover in the second and another single by Bourgeois in the sixth.  Kingham (1-0) walked one and struck out ten in his eight innings of work. Beau Ridgeway pitched a perfect ninth for the save.

The two teams will square off Saturday at 2:30 pm.
