A rifle arm for Ole Miss and some shaky Tiger pitching have put LSU down one game in the three game series set in Oxford Mississippi this weekend. You can't say the LSU offense wasn't clicking. They managed to hang six runs on the Rebels. They just didn't click enough with men on base.

Then it was more a case of the Tiger defense not being to hold back the Rebs. Twice LSU had two run leads only to see Ole Miss come storming back. The final score was Ole Miss 7 and LSU 6.

If you followed this game Thursday night you were treated to two outstanding defensive plays by Ole Miss outfielder J.B. Woodman. Woodman threw two different Tiger runners out at the plate. The second one in the 8th inning prevented LSU from drawing even with the Rebles on the scoreboard.

Perhaps more devastating that the rifle arm of Woodman was the lack of production out of the Tiger bats when it counted.  It wasn't like LSU couldn't get men on base. They just couldn't get those men around the score. The Tiger bats were stone cold with men on base connecting when it counted only 3 times in 15 opportunities.

The loss puts the LSU overall record at 27-15. That translates into a Southeastern Conference record of 10-9. LSU and Ole Miss play game two of the three game series tonight in Oxford. The first pitch is expected to cross the plate at 6:30.
