The 18th-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns softball team extended their current win streak, while defeating the Southeastern Louisiana in non-conference action on Tuesday evening at Lamson Park.

Louisiana collected a 13-5, 5-inning mercy-rule victory, in their final non-conference home game of the season.

The win extends the Cajuns’ current winning streak to 13 games, which began with a three-game Sun Belt Conference sweep of UTA on March 18-19.

Louisiana got on the scoreboard first, scoring 6 runs in the bottom half of the first inning, including a grand slam home run by DJ Sanders, her 20th long ball of the season, to give them a quick 6-0 lead.

The Cajuns put the game away in the bottom half of the third inning, scoring 7 runs on 4 hits, including a 2-run single by Daniella Chavez, and a 3-run double by Hayley Hayden, to take a commanding 13-0 lead.

Southeastern scored an unearned run in the top half of the 4th inning, before plating three runs in the top half of the 5th inning, but it was far from enough, as the Cajuns, who cruised to the 8-run, 5-inning, mercy-rule triumph.

Louisiana, who outhit Southeastern Louisiana, 9-6, was led at the plate by Hayden and Comeaux, who both collected two hits, while Sanders homered and drove in 4 runs.

Alyssa Denham (12-1) recorded the win in the circle for the Cajuns, allowing one unearned run on only one hit, over three innings.

Caily VanMemelryck (0-3) suffered the loss for the Lions, allowing 2 runs without retiring a batter.

With the win, Louisiana improved to 30-5, overall, while Southeastern Louisiana dropped to 19-20.
