OPELOUSAS, La. (AP) — Violent offender Brad Martin of Lafayette was sleeping when the Opelousas City Marshal's Office threw him out of bed and into handcuffs.

City Marshal Paul Mouton tells KLFY-TV that the 39-year-old Martin had been on the run since 2008 until his arrest around 7:30 a.m. Friday.

Martin is facing two charges each of vehicular homicide and aggravated battery to a police officer. Mouton says more charges are pending after authorities seized a rifle, seeds, marijuana, a grinder and scale from his home.

The Marshal's Office said Martin already faces five years of jail time for prior convictions including forgery, possession of marijuana, and aggravated battery.
