You Can Help Save Dorothy’s Ruby Red Slippers

In 1939 'The Wizard of Oz' became one of the most beloved films of all time. Generations have seen Dorothy Gale click her ruby red slippers, and now the Smithsonian Institute is asking for our help to preserve those famous shoes.

A Kickstarter campaign has been opened by the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, where the slippers have been on display for the last 30 years. They are asking for the public's help in raising $300,000 to preserve one of the most famous and valuable pieces of Hollywood history that is still in existence.

The Ruby Red Slippers are a size 5, and have been appraised at a whopping $3 million dollars. They were one of five pair that were worn by Judy Garland in the film, and need to be refurbished back to their original glory, as most items would after 80 years. Since the Smithsonian is federally funded, they are asking for private or public donations to help with the restoration. A hashtag campaign has also been started on Twitter, which is #KeepThemRuby.
