Officials at the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans say that a break in a stainless-steel cable barrier may have provided enough space for a jaguar to escape on Saturday morning.

The barrier was on the roof of the enclosure from which a 3-year-old jaguar named Valerio escaped. Officials say the investigation still continues.

Audubon says that once the investigation is complete they will begin making improvements to the exhibit. Right now the jaguars are being housed behind the scenes and away from the public.

There is no timetable yet as to when the exhibit will re-open.

Sadly, yesterday, zoo officials announced that a ninth animal had died following the attack. A fox named Rusty was the latest casualty.
