An extensive State Police investigation of an officer-involved shooting in St. Mary Parish leads to a man facing 18 attempted murder charges. 50 year old Derrick Bodin of Baldwin is facing those attempted murder charges and aggravated criminal damage to property as well. The officer-involved shooting happened in December of 2015 when officers were investigating a reported shooting. While deputies were tending to the victim of the shooting, 47 year old Gayneaux Trahan it's alleged Bodin fired at the deputies and one was shot in both legs. Trahan later died of his injuries. When officers took Bodin into custody at the scene he as suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the face and was taken to a hospital. State Police noted that Bodin fired at 18 officers and shot his neighbor's vehicle multiple times. Bodin was booked into the St. Mary Parish Jail after being released from hospital care. The investigation continues.
